The Chairman and Managing Director,

(All public sector banks)

Dear Sir,

75th meeting of official language implementation committee of public sector banks - follow-up action

Please refer to the Minutes of the 75th Meeting of Official Language Implementation Committee held on 27th April 1998 at Banglore in which the following proposals came up for discussion:

1(a) Proficiency in Hindi may be included in the desirable qualifications for the purpose of direct recruitment in banks.

1(b) Acquiring working knowledge of Hindi within threee years from the date of recruitment should be made compulsory for specialised/technical post holders in case the incumbents did not have such knowledge at the time of their recruitment.

2. 'Performance Appraisal Reports' of all members of staff (excepting sub-staff) should contain an item (column) regarding the contribution in increasing the use of Official language with appropirate mark allotted to this item. This item should also be included in the Self Appraisal Form. The banks who are already doing so, may continue this.

3. In the OLIC Meeting it was agreed that views of banks should be first obtained before taking any decision in regard to the above mentioned proposals. We shall, therefore, be glad if you send us your bank's views on the proposals after consideration by the Board of Directors.

Yours faithfully,

(Rajeshwar Gangwar)

General Manager
